About Habitual Roots

Wellness Through Connection

What we are

Our Story

Habitual Roots is the result of two young professionals noticing a gap in their lives while seeking personal growth resources and a supportive community. When Justin Ervin and Kevin Wong began navigating early years of their professional lives, they felt that something was missing from the equation: connection and guidance.
They founded the nonprofit, Habitual Roots, to both help people build healthy habits and find a supportive community on their wellness journeys, and to give a layer of guidance to anyone going through challenging times. In short, Justin and Kevin desired a form of Habitual Roots in their own lives, so they decided to create it.

What We Do

Habitual Roots is a local community organization that helps people improve their wellness through genuine human connection. We offer local classes and events, and provide access to wellness resources for anyone new to town, interested in personal growth, or looking to enhance their daily life.

All of this is done through evidence-based methods for the ultimate goal of helping people become empowered to transform their lives and begin living the life that genuinely fulfills them.

See the 3 astonishing facts we found...

  1. Almost 50% of Americans will experience a mental illness within their lifetime. [1]
  2. 1 in 4 Americans said they had to choose between getting treatment and paying for daily necessities. [2]
  3. 74% of Americans do not believe that mental health services are available for everyone. [3]

Through this discovery, and their lived experiences, Justin and Kevin were led to create Habitual Roots as a nonprofit organization.

Vision

A nationwide supportive community helping people to thrive in a healthier, more connected, and more fulfilling future, together.
"The quest for wellness and personal growth comes with difficulties. People don’t always know how to start, who to trust, where to go to get results, or what results they want. At the same time, it can feel lonely and challenging to stay motivated while seeking positive change in life through books and podcasts alone."

Our Why

Our aim is to help people find deeper connection with themselves and others while offering access to personal wellness and mindfulness-based programming with a like-minded community.

We want you to feel:
  • Supported to be more open and seen
  • Deeper connectedness
  • Empowered to take better care of yourself
  • Able to look at life less seriously

Why? Because it's something we are working on too
To make these goals a reality, we focus on four primary aspects of wellness: emotional management, healthy habits, deeper sense of community and connection to self. All of our programming touches on at least one of these four pillars, helping an individual grow in a corresponding area. The end result is that over a period of consistent practice and engagement with our community, members see significant improvements in these aspects of their lives, report increased life satisfaction, and a heightened sense of belonging.

Our Impact

At Habitual Roots, we are continuing to transform the way we think about wellness and well-being for those in our community. As we look into the future of building a sustainable and healthy lifestyle, we will continue to move towards integrated care for our members.

Any financial commitment to Habitual Roots goes far beyond just the events, and helps us serve others in the community by providing scholarships for those seeking access to our programming and need financial assistance. As a non-profit organization, all profits are funneled back into the organization and the community. This is because we genuinely love doing this work, and love seeing people at our events grow, and build happier, healthier relationships with themselves and others.
